Jehoshaphat's Vital Need

Excerpted from The Battle Belongs to the Lord: Overcoming Life's Struggles Through Worship
By Joyce Meyer
Jehoshaphat knew that unless he heard from God, he was not going to make it. That need was what The Amplified Bible calls his “vital need.” There are some things we can do without, but others are vital. Jehoshaphat knew having God's direction was vital.
You may be in a similar situation to Jehoshaphat's. You too may need a word from God. You may feel that, like a drowning man or woman, you are going under for the third time. You may desperately need a personal word from the Lord if you are to survive.
God wants to speak to you even more than you want to hear from Him. Seek Him by giving Him your time, and you will not be disappointed.
Jehoshaphat proclaimed a fast in all Judah, and Judah gathered to seek the Lord for help, yearning for Him with all their desire.
And Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord [yearning for Him with all their desire].
And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem in the house of the Lord before the new court.
And said, 0 Lord, God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven? And do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? In Your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand You.
2 CHRONICLES 20:4-6
Jehoshaphat proclaimed a fast to show his sincerity to God. Missing a few meals and taking that time to seek God is not a bad idea. Turning the television off and spending the time you would normally spend watching it with God is not a bad idea either. Stay home a few evenings and spend extra time with the Lord instead of going out with your friends and repeating your problem over and over to them. These things and others show that we know hearing from God is vital. I have learned the word seek means to pursue, crave, and go after with all your might. In other words we act like a starving man in search of food to keep us alive.
I would also like to add that we need to seek God all the time not just when we are in trouble. Once God spoke to me that the reason so many people had problems all the time was because that was the only time they would seek Him. He showed me that if He removed the problems, He would not get any time with the people. He said, “Seek Me as if you were desperate all the time and then you won't find yourself desperate as often in reality” I think this is good advice, and I highly recommend that we all follow it.
TALK TO GOD ABOUT HIM
Instead of immediately presenting the problem to the Lord, Jehoshaphat began to talk to the Lord about how mighty the Lord is. He turned his focus on the Lord instead of on his fear of the problem.
And said, 0 Lord, God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven? And do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? In Your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand You.
2 CHRONICLES 20:6
Instead of talking to God only about our problems, we need to talk to Him about Him. We need to talk to Him about Who He is, about the power of His Name and the power of the blood of His Son Jesus, about the great things we know that He can perform and has already performed. After we have praised and worshiped Him in this way, then we can begin to mention the problem. I would not like it if my children only came to talk to me when they had problems - I want them to fellowship with me.
I can think of a few people right now who only call me when they have problems, and it hurts me. I feel that they don't really care about me, but only what they want me to do for them. I am sure you have experienced this and feel the same way. These people may call themselves friends, but in reality they are not. Friends are for times of trouble, but that is not all they are for. As a friend, we need to show appreciation and spend time encouraging those we are in relationship with. We must avoid being the type of people who are what I call “takers.” Those who always take but never give.
I want to be the friend of God. He called Abraham His friend, and I want that also. The Lord is not just my problem solver. He is my everything, and I appreciate Him more than I know how to say.
“NOW, LORD. BEHOLD OUR PROBLEM”
Did not You, 0 our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham Your friend?
They dwelt in it and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your Name, saying,
If evil comes upon us, the sword of judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before You -for Your Name [and the symbol of Your presence] is in this house - and cry to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save.
And now behold, the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, whom You would not let Israel invade when they came from the land of Egypt, and whom they turned from and did not destroy -
Behold, they reward us by coming to drive us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit.
1 CHRONICLES 20:7-11 These are fighting words. If we will listen to what the Lord is saying to us through them, we will learn something that will change our battle plan forever and give us victory after victory.
After starting his prayer by acknowledging how great, awesome, powerful and wonderful the Lord is, Jehoshaphat then began relating specific mighty acts the Lord had performed in the past to protect His people and uphold the promises He had made them. And in finally presenting his request, He began by expressing His confidence that the Lord would handle the problem. Jehoshaphat said in so many words, “Oh, by the way, our enemies are coming against us to try to take away the possession that you gave us for our inheritance. I just thought I would mention this little problem. But You are so great; I know You already have it all under control.”
When we do ask God for help we should realize He hears us the first time we ask Him for something. We don't need to spend our prayer time asking Him for the same thing over and over. We may keep talking to Him about our needs until we have assurance in our hearts that we have a breakthrough, but we don't have to do that to move God.
God has a plan for our deliverance before the problem ever appears. God is not surprised when the enemy attacks. He is not in heaven wringing His hands trying to figure out what to do. Our part is to focus on Him and His mighty power, worshiping Him and praising Him for the manifestation of His solution and listening for a word or direction from Him.

26 years ago I met a handsome young man. His country charm captured my heart, and swept me off my feet. We got married in a fever (Johnny Cash). We were young and very much in love. We raised a family together, worked hard at our careers,  laughed and cried together. Had our ups and downs, like all couples do. We've come along way together. We out lasted the storm together. We discovered that "LOVE" isn't that excitement you feel when you first fall in love. That is infatuation.  Love is weathering the storm, and coming out on top. That is true love. It's called committment. That is what marriage is about.

The Respect Dare

Do you and your spouse have conflicts such that his or your heartbeat is elevated? Does this happen frequently? Did you know that repeated exposures to negative interactions cloud our entire perception of our marriage? So, instead of, "He is angry over this one event," we tend to see, "He is an angry person." Guess what? Frequently our perceptions are wrong, and based on both parties inability to walk through conflict well. There are literally hundreds of scriptures about conflict in the Bible. Dare you to stop making assumptions when in conflict today.
Crowned with Goodness

by Joel Osteen Ministries
"You crown the year with Your bounty and goodness…"(Psalm 65:11, AMP)
The Lord has crowned your year with bounty and goodness! That means there is an abundant supply for whatever you may need—spiritually, physically, emotionally and financially. He has also set up a system so that you can access His blessings. It's the system of seedtime and harvest. If you have a need in your life, sow a seed. For example, if you're lonely and need friends, sow a seed by being a friend to someone. If you have a financial need, pray and ask the Lord where you should sow a financial seed. The Bible says to give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over. That's God crowning your year with bounty and goodness. Do you need mercy? Sow seeds of mercy. The more you sow, the more you will reap a harvest from God's abundant bounty.
Remember, He's already crowned your year with His goodness. Take a step of faith today and believe that God is ready to pour out His abundant blessing on you all the days of your life.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Heavenly Father, thank You for supplying all my needs according to Your riches in glory. I submit my resources to You today and ask You to show me where I can sow seeds and be a blessing to those around me. In Jesus' Name. Amen

Don't believe the lies in your brain that keep telling you you're a paper plate, that you're worthless, that keep tempting you to throw yourself away. You are fine china! That's how much God thinks you're worth - the life of His Son.

The Respect Dare ‎"I'm sorry." Those are powerful words. "I forgive you." So are those. When we do the wrong thing, we need to say, "I'm sorry," and do so without excuses ("but I was really tired," "but you made me mad...") as excuses diminish character. We also need to tell the other person when they apologize to us that they are forgiven. Today, we dare you to say you are sorry, and freely give forgiveness.

"If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all His commands...you will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country"(Deuteronomy 28:1-3, NIV)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Do you want to experience more of God's blessing in your life? Living in obedience and integrity is the key that unlocks the door to His abundance. When you put God and His Word first place in your life, the Bible says you'll be blessed in the city and in the country—you'll be blessed wherever you go!

This chapter in the Bible goes on to say that you will be so blessed that you will lend and not borrow. Can you see yourself in that position? Can you see yourself living in that kind of abundance?

See, God doesn't want you to be living with a barely-get-by attitude. We don't serve a barely-get-by God; our God is more than enough! He wants you to have more than enough to meet your needs and be a blessing to the people around you.
I encourage you today to make room in your life for the blessing of God. Choose to live in obedience to His Word. Choose to follow His commands. As you do, you will rise up higher and live the abundant life God has for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father in heaven, thank You for Your hand of blessing on my life. I choose today to put You first in everything I do. Help me to walk in integrity and follow Your commands so that I can honor You always. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Pray for Blessing

Pray for Blessing

August 24

Invoke blessings upon and pray for the happiness of those who curse you, implore God’s blessing (favor) upon those who abuse you [who revile, reproach, disparage, and high-handedly misuse you].

— Luke 6:28

A common misconception is that all you have to do if you are wronged is make the decision to forgive and your job is finished. But God also says, “Bless those who persecute you [who are cruel in their attitude toward you]; bless and do not curse them” (Romans 12:14).

In this context the word bless means “to speak well of.” It is extending mercy to people who do not deserve it. Not only are you to extend forgiveness to those who hurt you, you are to pray for them to be blessed spiritually. You are to ask God to bring truth and revelation so they will be willing to repent and be set free from their sins. Don’t just forgive— complete the process by asking God to bless them. He will bless you greatly for your obedience.

Forgive

We can all be hard on ourselves at times. Take a moment to forgive yourself. Whether it’s for a mistake you made or something you didn’t do, just let it go. You can even write down your mistake or regret and then tear up the piece of paper as you tell yourself that you forgive yourself for the grievance or grudge you held.

Why it Matters:

Harboring negative emotions leaves less room for joy, happiness, and compassion. By forgiving yourself and moving forward, you may experience benefits including reduced stress, less anxiety, and even lower blood pressure in some instances. Forgiving yourself also helps you form healthier, more positive relationships with others.

Fun Fact:

In Roman mythology, Clementia is the goddess of forgiveness and mercy.

Respect Dare

The Respect Dare Today's dare is simple...not easy...but simple: Just say, "yes." Be agreeable. Did you know that finding common ground first can help resolve conflict? Did you know complaining and arguing is sin? Many times contempt is communicated through disagreement. So today, just say, "yes." And you'll shine like a star! See below for details. :)

Adversity

All adversity contains within itself the seed for an equal or greater benefit. To try and avoid adversity at all costs is to run from your destiny

This is good.  Someone posted this on FB the day I applied for 2 full time positions.
I got laid off.  You would think it's a bad thing.  But I know that God always has something better in store.  Funny thing is, I've been saying I want a normal job.  I don't want to work weekends or holidays.  I want to work 8-5.  I knew I was ready for a change.

Agreeing with God by Joel Osteen

Agreeing with God

.by Joel Osteen Ministries on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 7:17am.Today's Verse: "Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?" (Amos 3:3, NKJ).

Today's Word:

Are you going through a difficult time today? We all experience setbacks and obstacles in this life, but don't make the mistake of allowing those challengesto change your perspective. You can't go around thinking that those problems are insurmountable because negative thinking will keep you in bondage.

Did you know that when you're negative, you're in agreement with the enemy? But when you have a positive attitude according to what the Word says, then you're in agreement with God. You and God are a majority. When you agree with God, all things are possible.

Today, instead of going around thinking about your problems, cast down those thoughts and start dwelling on the fact that Almighty God, the Creator of the universe is on your side. Declare today that no weapon formed against you shall prosper. Declare that He is fighting your battles. Declare that victory is on its way. Get into agreement with God and pave the way for His supernatural blessing in your life.

Prayer for Today: Father God, thank You for Your truth that sets me free. I choose to submit my thoughts to You and come into agreement with Your Word. Help me to keep my mind stayed on You and Your victory no matter what may come my way. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Renew Your Mind Daily

.by Joel Osteen Ministries on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 10:38pm.Today's Verse: "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5, NIV).

Today's Word:

So many people today are not really enjoying their lives because of the condition of their minds. They constantly dwell on negative, destructive, harmful thoughts. They don't realize it, but the root cause of many of their problemsis simply the fact that their thought life is out of control. They just dwellon any thought that comes.

More than ever, we have to understand that our lives follow our thoughts. If you think negative thoughts, then you're going to live a negative life. If you think discouraging, hopeless thoughts, can't-do-it thoughts, mediocre thoughts, then your life is going to go down that exact same pathway. That's why we have to take captive every thought and renew our minds with the Word of God on a daily basis.

I want to challenge you today to think about what you're thinking about. Don't let those self-defeating thoughts linger in your mind. Instead, speak God's promises over your life. Declare what He says about you. Take captive every thought and renew your mind daily. As you do, you'll be empowered to move forward into the abundant life He has for you!

Prayer for Today: Father God, today I choose to take captive everythought. I choose to renew my mind according to Your Word. Holy Spirit, thank You for being my teacher and helper. I invite You to direct me in the way that I should go. Help me fulfill my destiny. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Sarah had many challanges

Sarah: Mom of Promise

“By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.” Hebrews 11:11

Of the moms we will meet, Sarah has one of the longest roads to travel before actually becoming a mom. She battled discouragement in many areas of her life, but she was victorious because she, “judged Him faithful who had promised.”

Sarah was first named Sarai which means “to contend.” Her husband Abram was called of God to father a great nation. Sarai was also part of this plan. God told Abram, “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; you shall be a blessing” (Gen. 12:2).

Because God promised Abram he would father a great nation, Sarai knew she would bear children. But years and years went by without an heir. Abram asked God if one born in his household would become his heir and not one actually born to him (Gen. 15:2). But God again said Abram would personally father a child and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them… So shall your descendents be.”

Because Sarai was still barren, she thought of a plan. If her handmaiden, Hagar, had a baby by Abram, the baby would also be Sarai’s. According to pastor and author John MacArthur, “Sarah apparently reasoned that since she owned Hagar, if Abraham fathered a child by Hagar, it would in effect be Sarah’s child.” But God designed marriage to be between one man and one woman. So this polygamy was sinful and would not have the outcome Sarai wanted. In fact, after Hagar conceived Ishmael, Sarai began to hate her.

Hagar was told by God that Ishmael would become a great nation, but not the nation promised to Abram. God promised Abram again that he would have a child, through Sarai. He changed their names to Abraham and Sarah. When God told Abraham he would bear a son this time next year, he laughed (Genesis 17:17). And later when Sarah heard she would bear a son in her old age, she laughed (18:12). Though this plan sounded impossible, God made it a reality. John MacArthur writes, “When His time came for the promise to be fulfilled, no one would be able to deny that this was indeed God’s doing. His plan all along was for Sarah to have her first child in her old age, after every prospect of a natural fulfillment of the prophecy was exhausted and after every earthly reason for hope was completely dead.”

Isaac, which means “he laughs,” was born to Sarah when Abraham was 100 years old. Sarah said, “God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me” (Gen. 21:6). Elizabeth George writes, “This definitely was an occasion for joy. Isaac was Sarah’s reward. He was the child of her own body, the child of her old age, the child of God’s promise, the fruit of tested faith, the gift of God’s grace, and the heaven-appointed heir.”

When Sarah was 127, she died. Abraham and Isaac mourned her death. Her life was marked by highs and lows. But she remained faithful. She is remembered not for her mistakes, but for her victories. As Eugenia Price writes, “We think rightly of Abraham as the first man of great faith, of Sarah, as the first woman of great faith. They were.” Hebrews 11:11 says of Sarah, “By faith even Sarah herself received the ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised.” We also know God is faithful to His promises to us. Remember the following promises as you go throughout your day:

•Romans 8:28 “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

•Psalm 55:22 “Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.”

•Isaiah 41:10, “Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you. Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

•1Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.”

1 Peter 3:6 tells us we can be Sarah’s daughters if we do what is right without being afraid. What does it mean to be a daughter of Sarah? What qualities do we want to emulate from he

You might treat yourself to a coffee break or indulge in reading your favorite blog. The reward can be small, but allow yourself some time to relax once your goal is accomplished.

Why it Matters:

Finding the balance between productivity and relaxation can reduce your stress and help you feel more motivated to move on to the next task. While there's usually no easy way around difficult or mundane tasks -- unless you can afford to have someone do them for you, of course -- you may be able to tackle them successfully knowing you can reward yourself modestly after the task is completed.

Fun Fact:

Procrastination is on the rise. In 1978, only about five percent of the American public thought of themselves as chronic procrastinators. Now, more than 20 percent say they are.

Joel Olsteen " Give us this day our daily bread

.by Joel Osteen Ministries : "Give us this day our daily bread..." (Matthew 6:11, NKJ).

Today's Word:

God has grace in store for you every single day. Grace is His supernatural empowerment, His unmerited favor on your life. All throughout scripture, we see God giving daily grace, empowerment and provision to His people. For example, when the people of Israel were in the wilderness headed toward the Promised Land, God gave them manna each morning to eat. It would just appear on the ground. But, He specifically instructed them to gather up only enough for one day's supply. In fact, if they got more than that, it wouldn't last. It would spoil. They were learning to trust God's grace every single day.

In the same way, God doesn't give us grace for a year at a time or even a month at a time. No, every 24 hours God has a fresh, new supply of grace, favor, wisdomand forgiveness. How are you going to make it through the seasons of your life? One day at a time. Look for His grace today. Look for His provision today. Lookfor His hand of favor and blessing today because He promises to supply everything you need for today.

Prayer for Today: Father God, thank You for Your grace and favor on my life today. I know that You have a fresh supply of everything that I need—physically, spiritually and emotionally—today. Help me to trust You more as I seek Your face. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Proverbs 26:20-21

Proverbs 26:20-21 Without wood, fire goes out; without a gossip, conflict dies down. As charcoal for embers and wood for fire, so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife.

Titus 2:3-5 (New International Version)

3Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

T.D. Jakes Ministries/The Potter's House Even when people have counted you out and thought you would never be back. Out of the ashes of adversity comes resilience, commitment, tenacity, and strategy. As long as you have those four things– you will bounce back and go the distance. You are God’s CHAMPION!

Respect Dare

The Respect Dare In the passage below, the phrase, "love" refers to "phileo" love, which is friendship. Dare you today to ask God to give you some ideas of how you can be your husband's friend...then do it! Want a deeper relationship with God? Do what He suggests!

Too Much Skin

Recently God has been dealing with about this issue.  I just happened to come across this chapter in a book I'm reading.  "The Respect Dare."  It's sad that women are showing more and more skin.  It's almost a competition with women who can get the most sexual attention.  Women feel the presure.  We as women need to be more aware of how men are programed by God, and how real their struggles are.  I myself have struggled in this area, and God has been speaking to me about it.  Very eye opening.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 I recently a study in a book that showed 98% of men who see a visually attractive woman are well aware of her presence to the extent that they think about her repeatedly, even if they don't want to do so.

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

Proverbs: 8:22
Like a gold ring in a pig's snout it is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.

Men are more visual than women and struggle in ways that most women cannot even imagine.  The magazines in a supermarket checkout line can be a temptation mine field for a man trying to keep his eyes off of other women and his thoughts only of his own wife.  We can do much for the men around us if we will but choose our clothing a little more carefully.
A Daughters Story...
Claire watched as her husband's eyes strayed from full engagement in conversation with her, to repeated glancing to the left, at someone behind her.  "who are you looking at?" she asked him.  Paul immediately stammered a bit and finally replied, "I can't help it, honey, but we neeed to move.  That woman who just came in is about half-dressed and I can't keep from looking at her."
Claire and Paul switched places in the family room of their friends' home, and she saw exactly what he meant.  Across the room, and being noticed by nearly everyone at the company party, was Ronnie.  She was a new addition to the staff, and made a habit of wearing short skirts and low-cut blouses; but her attire tonight took the cake.  The sleeveless little black dress barely covered the essentials and even though it was December, more of her skin was showing than was covered.
Claire asked him, "How do you handle working with her every day?"
Paul relplied, "I stay away from her as much as possible and if I need to, I refocus on pictures of you and the kids."
Claire appreciated the candor with which Paul communicated the truth to her.  While she didn't understand by experience her husband's visual struggles, it certainly motivated her to keep herself fit.  She wanted to be sure she was the most affirming and positve woman her husband would encounter on any given day.  The thought of Ronnie in Paul's office, vying for attention also made her a little angry.
Bottom Line:  We meed tp be respectful of other womens's husbands in the way we dress.  Make it easy on your husband's friends and co-workers by dressing conservatively and saving the glamour for hubby!

So What about you?
1. How has our culture convinced women that being sex objects is a good, beautiful thing?

2.  What's wrong with this?

3.  How does it negatively affect our daughters and young women?

4.  How does it negatively affect us?

6.  In general, most men struggle with visual images and sexual thoughts when exposed to cleavage, short skirts, etc.  Men will also say that when watching a presentation given by a provocatively dressed woman, they aren't listening to what she's saying, but rather thinking about her body or what it's like to have sex with her.   How do you feel about that?  Would you rather have men hearing what you have said or have them thinking sexual thoughts about you?

TODAYS YOUR DARE IS RELATIVELY SIMPLE.  PRAYERFULLY SPEND 15 MINUTES GOING THROUGH YOUR CLOSIT.  CONSIDER WHAT YOUR CLOTHING IS COMMUNICATING ABOUT YOU AND HOW IT REPRESENTS YOUR HUSBAND AND FAMILY.
ARE THERE THINGS YOU NEED TO GET RID OF?  ARE THERE ITEMS THAT SHOULD BE RESERVED FOR TIME ALONE ONLY WITH YOUR HUSBAND

The Path of the Righteous

Joel Osteen Ministries's Notes

 NoteThe Path of the Righteous

Today's Scripture: "The way of the righteousis like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the fulllight of day" (Proverbs 4:18, NLT).

Today's Word:
Are you facing a situation that seems dark today? As a believer, God promises that yourpath will shine brighter and brighter as you seek His Truth and righteousnessin every situation in your life.
How do you seek righteousness? Righteousness is simply being in right standing withGod. When you submit Your life to Him and choose to obey His commands, you areseeking His righteousness and you are on the path of the righteous! Just like today's verse says, the light of God's Word will shine brighter and brighterand will guide you in every decision you have to make.
Today, take time to ask the Lord to shine His light on you. Ask Him to confirm His plan for you. When you make His Word a priority in your life, you will experience more of His blessings. You'll see those brighter days as you move forward in the good plan He has in store for you!
Prayer for Today: Father God, I know that You have a wonderful plan and purpose for me. I desire to be in right standing with You. Show me your ways and teach me to walk righteously before you. Shine your light in my heart and give me strength to pursue the path You have in store for me. In Jesus'Name. Amen.

Eat ared fruit or vegetable

Friday's challenge: Eat a red fruit or vegetable.

.by MeYou Health on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 6:28am.When you see red today, think "go," not "stop" by putting a red vegetable or fruit on your menu. Pick from red peppers, beets, radishes, red cabbage, strawberries, cherries or watermelon. Add cranberries to salad, tote grape tomatoes as a snack, or choose a more exotic alternative, such as a pomegranate or blood orange. Not that adventurous? Red apples are great choices, too.
Why it Matters: Red produce is packed with health-promoting antioxidants and beneficial nutrients such as lycopene, shown to have anticancer effects, and resveratrol, which helps the heart. Tomato products are high in lycopene while red grapes score for resveratrol. Mix up your red choices every day to get a variety of good-for-you rewards
Fun Fact: Red peppers aren't vegetables. Botanically-speaking, they're fruit—just like tomatoes—because they contain seeds.

When Our Sons Stumble

When Our Sons Stumble

By Sandra on August 11, 2010 in Sons of ThunderOur children will fail. They will sin. They will stumble. They will disappoint us. Our children aren’t perfect.

So what do we do when they don’t meet our expectations? When they sin?
We can follow Jesus’ example–give grace, guidance, and an opportunity to grow.
First, we show grace. Generous, lavish, unconditional, amazing grace. Grace that says I love you, I know you are sorry, and I know you will make a better decision next time.
Jesus was patient with the disciples when they failed, especially Peter. During Jesus’ last days, Peter failed Jesus by denying Him three times (Luke 22:54-62). Failure on top of failure on top of failure. After denying he knew Jesus for the third time, Luke 22:61-62 says, “And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, ‘Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.’ And he went out and wept bitterly.”
But after the resurrection, the women found an angel in Jesus’ tomb who said to them, “But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee” (Mark 16:7, emphasis mine). Grace reaches Peter before Peter even reaches Jesus! When Peter heard of Jesus’ resurrection, he wasn’t scared of Jesus’ reaction to his sin. “Peter rose and ran to the tomb,” Luke 24:12 says. May our children also run to us with repentance, knowing that we will show them grace and acceptance.
We also give guidance. Jesus continued to be patient with the disciples after the resurrection as all the pieces to the puzzle began to come together in their minds. In John 20:21-22 Jesus said to His disciples, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you… Receive the Holy Spirit.” Jesus told them what to do and promised the help of the Holy Spirit to continue to guide them. We can also help our children see the right path and remind them of the Holy Spirit’s guidance in their lives.
And even though Peter had failed, Jesus not only showed grace and gave guidance, He also gave Peter an opportunity to grow. In John chapter 12, Jesus asks Peter, “Do you love me?” Then He challenges Peter to care for His sheep- His people. In spite of Peter’s failure, God still had a plan for his life. And Jesus gave Peter the specific call to minister to His people. Stumbling does not automatically disqualify us for service (aren’t we all thankful for that!). We can also give our children the opportunity to grow through the consequences of their actions and help them move on in life.
We can follow Jesus’ example when our sons stumble as we give grace, guidance, and an opportunity to grow.

Arise & Shine.....Joel Olsteen

Today'sVerse: "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you" (Isaiah 60:1, NIV).

Today'sWord:
Today, God wants to exceed your expectations! He has amazing things stored up for you. He wants to take you places that you've never dreamed and do things in your life that you've never imagined. His glory is rising upon His people. Things are going to fall into place so that you can accomplish what God has placed in your heart. Even the hidden dreams that you've given up on, God has not given up on.He is going to do exceedingly abundantly above and beyond all you could ask, think, or imagine!
Now isthe time to arise and shine in Him!
Your mind may try to talk you out of it, but if you'll listen with your heart, it will resonate on the inside of you. Don't let discouragement hold you back or keep you down. Rise up every morning and declare, "Today is the day that the Lord has made." Choose to rejoice in Him. Choose to expect His goodness. Choose to arise and shine and receive every spiritual blessing He has in store for you!
Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, I come to You today with an open and humble heart.Thank You for choosing me and for preparing a bright future for me. I willarise and I will shine. Let everything I do bring honor to You. In Jesus' Name.Amen.

An Honest Relationship with Him

T.D. Jakes Ministries/The Potter's House Today, ask God for a second touch by coming and saying, “God, I received the first touch, but I’m not there yet. I’m not seeing things clearly.” What God wants to emanate out of our hearts is an open, honest relationship with Him, where we’re able to come into His presence and tell the truth. “I’m better, but I’m not straight yet. I see things but it’s blurry.”

ONLY GOD

Only GOD can turn a MESS into a MESSage, a TEST into a TESTimony, a TRIal into a TRIumph, a VICTim into a VICTory. GOD is GOOD... all the time! I love this!! Repost it if you love it too

Praying Scripture, Psalm 139by Teri Lynne Underwood

.Your Turn ~ Praying Scripture
Praying Scripture, Psalm 139by Teri Lynne Underwood

.One of my {Teri Lynne} favorite passages to use in my prayer time is Psalm 139. Today, I’d like to take you through that process and encourage you to pray through this passage as well.

Psalm 139 (NLT)
O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.Father, I have no secrets from You … there is nothing hidden from Your sight. You know me – every thing about me, from my fears and insecurities to my dreams and longings. You see my heart … the darkness of the sin in me and the joy I have in my salvation. It’s all out there … plain as day … exposed. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my every thought when far away. You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am.
What a beautiful and scary truth! That You are “familiar with all my ways” and know my every thought. Even when it seems as though You are far away, it’s not true. You are always here with me, guiding and directing me … even giving me times of rest. You even force rest upon me when I fail to heed Your guidance. I don’t understand how it’s true – but I am thankful that I am never lost from Your sight, I never fall off Your radar.
You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. Ouch! Lord, You know my words and my thoughts … how sinful they can be … and how often I fail to control my tongue. I ask You to help me with this … teach me how to take my thoughts captive and to bridle my tongue. I don’t want to be deceived and have worthless religion (James 1:26). I cry out the words of the Psalmist, “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to You” (Psalm 19:14). Forgive me for being careless with my words … and with my manner as well. Forgive me for the times and ways my nonverbal communication has hurt others.
You both precede and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to know!
I am overwhelmed, God! ”Your hand of blessing” … I certainly do not deserve that. The knowledge that You have offered me a relationship with You is amazing … and that You would give Your Son to pay the price for my sin is too great for me to ever comprehend. Teach me to find joy in that truth! And to be ready at all times to share that same promise of salvation with others.
I can never escape from your spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the place of the dead, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength support me.
Thank you! What peace I have from knowing I can never escape from Your love … that it is not dependent on me … but wholly rests in Your character and Your promise.
I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night – but even in the darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines bright as day. Darkness and light are both alike to you.
You are unchanging, eternal … always. And in You is light and life … and I am, again, overwhelmed by the great mercy You offer me … the grace You extend. In You there is no darkness (I John 1:5) and Your Word is a lamp to my path (Psalm 119:105). Help me to follow Your light always … thank You for Your Son who is the Light of the World (John 8:12).
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complete! Your workmanship is marvelous – and how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
You KNOW me … You have always known me … and You created me to be ME. Teach me to be content in who I am and not to wrestle with envy and jealousy over how You made someone else. Help me understand my identity in You alone … and to celebrate the life you have laid out just for me.
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God! They are innumerable! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up in the morning, you are still with me!
Precious … Your thoughts about me are precious for I am precious to You.
O God, if only you would destroy the wicked! Get out of my life, you murderers! They blaspheme you; your enemies take your name in vain. O Lord, shouldn’t I hate those who hate you? Shouldn’t I despise those who resist you? Yes, I hate them with complete hatred, for your enemies are my enemies.
Lord, give me discernment about people and motives. Help me learn to reject those attitudes and behaviors that contradict Your Word. Teach me to seek Your justice in all things and to faithfully point others to Your truth.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
Lord, search those hidden places … lead me to You … give me courage to confess the sins in my heart and my life and strength to turn from them. Amen.

Respect Dare

The Respect Dare From page 151...what ONE thing can you do today to communicate to your husband that you are his #1 fan? Dare you to do more than just think about it! :)

DO YOU SUFFER WITH DEPRESSION??

I AM SO EXCITED.  I HAVE BEEN SUFFERING WITH SEVERE BOUTS OF DEPRESSION FOR A FEW YEARS NOW.  I'VE BEEN VERY RELUCTANT TO GO ON MEDICATION.  I'VE BEEN PRAYING, AND CRYING OUT TO GOD ABOUT IT.  I WAS DESPERATE, AND ABOUT AT THE END OF MY ROPE.  WILLING TO TRY JUST ABOUT ANYTHING.  THEN ONE DAY I HAPPENED TO TALK WITH A FRIEND OF MINE WHO TOLD ME SHE TRIED THIS ALL NATURAL PRODUCT....AND IT WORKED.  I'VE BEEN TAKING IT FOR ABOUT 4 DAYS NOW, AND I ALREADY FEEL LIKE A DIFFERENT PERSON.  IT'S A MIRACLE!  I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED ON MY PROGRESS.  THE NAME OF THE PRODUCT IS AMORYN.  YOU CAN GOOGLE IT IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.  SO FAR, I FEEL LIKE IT'S A GOD SEND.

Pruning the vine

Before the fruit, comes the pruning. I imagine if a vine could talk, he'd say to the pruner, "You're killing me, man!" And the gardener would say, "I know it hurts, but I'm actually removing things you don't really need so you can explode with greater fruit." That may be exactly what's happening in your life right now. It doesn't feel good, but it is good. God is lovingly removing things you think you need
The Bible doesn't promise that followers of Christ will be spared suffering and difficulty. But what it does promise is that God will ALWAYS restore us after any trial that we undergo. Suffering is for a "short time" only, and WILL be followed by God's healing. Remember Gods time is not our time

When we stop praising God, we start forgetting God. And when we forget the kind of God we have, we start wandering, we start getting hurt, and we are much more likely to take matters into our own hands, to panic, to get impatient, to get discouraged or to get depressed. But the more you train yourself to be a "praiser," the less mistakes you're going to make - the less regrets you're going to have.

Spiritual Warfare

Whether we realize it or not....there is a battle going on. A battle for our souls.  It's a spiritual battle.   Satan desires to kill, steal, and destroy. He wants to destroy our families, our health, our potential. He wants to destroy YOU. He hates you. We must be proactive. We can't sit back and do nothing. When you gave your life to Christ, you enlisted in His army.  Ephesians 6:10-18  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.  11. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12.  For we wrestle not aginst flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spriritual wickedness in high places.  13.  Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand.  14. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having the breastplate of righteousness:  15. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gosple of peace; 16. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;  18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

THE GODLY WOMAN

A Godly Woman

The Bible speaks to everyone who follows in the way,
But some parts are specific in the things they have to say.
The fathers are encouraged, and those alone in life,
And there are admonitions for the mother and the wife.
I always linger over these; they speak to my estate.
They offer me direction in the small things and the great.
To be a goldy woman is the goal I want to reach,
And so I need to study what the Scriptures have to teach.A woman who is called to be a mother and a wife,
Who takes the cross and purpose to live a godly life,
Is ever growing in the faith she’s chosen to profess,
And there are certain qualities she covets to possess.
The godly woman stays at home, her duties keep her there.
She rises while it yet is night and gives herself to prayer.
Her days are full of service and her heart is full of love;
Her mind is full of gratitude and praise for God above.

Though not employed outside the home, she has no mind to shirk,

She eats not bread of idleness, but fruit of honest work.
Her brother and her sister, her parents and her neighbor,
Her husband and her children share the blessing of her labor.
The love her husband feels for her is easy to reflect,
And she not only loves him, but she gives him her respect.
In her his heart may safely trust; she does him only good;
When he confides his inner thoughts, he finds them understood.
She’s mindful, too, of Eden, where the woman was deceived,
She knows it’s not her place to teach, as others have believed,
Nor to usurp authority, but listen with subjection,
In meekness and humilty, accepting his direction.

When all the church assembles in a solemn, formal way,
The godly woman listens to what the brethren have to say;
And if she hears a statement made that makes her sit up straighter,
The question forming in her mind she asks her husband later.
Still, there is a congregation where her voice is often heard,
And her children are attentive as she teaches them the Word.
When she sits within her house, and when she walks along the way;
When she lays them down at night and when she rises with the day.

The godly woman isn’t gay; she’s left all that behind.
She’s pleasant and she’s cheerful, but she has a sober mind.
Her covered head, her simple dress, her modest mien are one;
Her singular adornment is the good that she has done.

When years of faithful laboring have bent her body low,
She’ll teach the younger women in the way that they should And verily, I say to you, she’ll have a rich reward.

Oh, make of me that woman, Lord! And guide me in that way,
Behold, Thou art the potter, and I the softened clay.
Encourage me where I am right; rebuke me where I’m wrong.
I read these Scriptures often and I ponder on them long
